Howard Co. Bans Hearings on Islamic and Jewish Holidays (Maryland)
Thursday November 11, 2004 1:01pm Elicott City, Md. (AP) - The Howard County Council will no longer hold public hearings on two Islamic holidays and two Jewish holidays.
The legislation was introduced by councilman Ken Ulman and passed unanimously on November 1st. It bars the council from scheduling public hearings on Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha. Those days mark the end of Ramadan and the end of Muslims' pilgrimage to Mecca.
Taliban Leader Omar Vows to Retake Afghanistan (11/12/04)
Friday, November 12, 2004 8:14 a.m. ET KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has accused the United States of trying to impose a puppet administration in Afghanistan and vowed to regain control of the country, a Pakistan-based Afghan news agency reported on Friday.
A message from the leader of the Taliban movement overthrown by U.S.-led forces in late 2001 was sent to newspaper offices in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, the Afghan Islamic Press said.
The message, to mark the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr starting this weekend, came the day before the third anniversary of the day when U.S.-backed Afghan forces captured Kabul from the Taliban on November 13, 2001.
Iraqi Group Threatens to Attack the American Interests in Bahrain
Bahrain-USA, Local, 11/12/2004 A statement carrying the signature of one Iraqi group and issued on one Islamic website threatened on Wednesday of targeting the American interests in Bahrain.
The statement which bears the signature of "Ansar al-Islam, Bahrain branch" said that the group decided to launch "suicide attacks" targeting the " American non believers ( Kuffar) and their hirelings in the Kingdom of Bahrain."
