A few of my friends have done just that over the last few years. We are indeed lucky to be "Girt by Sea" although many elite Europeans in the 1800's and 1900's regarded Australia as a backwater to be avoided at all costs. Deluded souls that they were. The Australian Government is a little selective on who it gives residency to, but that is not a bad thing. Australia's population policy has gone through many changes over the decades.

In Jewish mysticism it is claimed that each part of the world will have a place to play in the redemption process. I am very happy to live in this great country although whatever country I have lived in throughout my life I have enjoyed.

P.S. An historical immigration footnote...In the 1940's and 50's Australia needed more immigrants. We were seriously underpopulated. Some clever person in the government/civil service of the day came up with the slogan "Eat meat three times a day !" to attract people from Europe, especially Britain to emigrate. The posters appeared in many Australian emigration offices in the Old Dart. The campaign was highly successful as it summed up in a very clear and concise manner the benefits of moving to Australia.
