In closing, prosecutor says parenthood pushed Scott Peterson to kill
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife because fatherhood threatened his "fantasyland" double life as a "rich, successful, freewheeling bachelor," a prosecutor told jurors during closing arguments Monday in his capital murder trial.
Prosecutor Rick Distaso said the fertilizer salesman strangled or smothered his 27-year-old spouse, Laci, in their home on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24, 2002, so he could be free of the lifetime of responsibilities the child would bring.
"He didn't want adult married life. He didn't want Conner Peterson," Distaso said, referring to the child Laci Peterson was carrying.
The prosecutor said Peterson had long maintained two lives "the perfect husband" in public and in private, a cad grudgingly tolerating his marriage but the birth of his first child and the expense of raising the boy or paying child support jeopardized the secret side he treasured.
Story continues .......
They could be looking at the size and thinking about whether he could get Laci's body on there, with anchors, and dump it. I read once that it would be hard on a little boat like that.
I don't thinking asking to see the boat means their deciding between first and second murder. They are still deciding if he did it.
Hey rb looks like things are getting interesting now with the jury asking to see the boat. I'm betting it's over in a few days with a guilty verdict of second degree.
yikes.... ouch! that hurt! lol...
I didn't hear that until now... Watching Greta right now... Or should I say, listening to the show from another room... Puter is always better.... ;o)
Thanks for the update... Yes, I think things are moving along.. Review...review....review... I think they are making sure 'beyond a reasonable doubt' to deliver a guilty verdict! You just might be right... Actually, I think within the next week they will decide. Which day, who knows.... ;o)
I would think they want to see the boat to determine premeditation. (i.e. could this boat reasonably be used for fishing in the bay). The boat is one of the premed factors.
I have to believe that they all know he did it it's just a matter of premed or not.
We'll see if they start asking about other premed factors....Maybe the "my wife is lost" testimony on the phone with Amber.
Yes, okay I see how the boat can mean that! Good.
(I just now saw this thread. Been too busy with the election threads.)
lol I wasn't criticizing her voice, just Geragos' words she had to repeat. I'd much rather listen to her than him!
I have 2 daughters with hair like Beth's. The cousins in the family have straightened, blown and gelled their hair to death, trying to get it straight. Thank goodness, my girls like their curls or they'd be very unhappy young women. ;-)
Beth's hair looks like 'home' to me.
Not aruguing with you, just clarifying my earlier post. :-)
I've been wondering lately if Beth might write a book on this case, based on her copious notes (along with Harriet) and the inevitable behind-the-scenes nuggets she has probably accumulated...

Trying to catch up here...
Is the murder weapon SP's hands? He strangled her, she scratched his hands leaving tiny spots of his blood on the bedspread, SP showed the healed cuts to Gloria Gomez during the interview. Laci was getting ready for bed on the 23rd., she had just taken her blouse off when he attacked her. She was found with no blouse, just the maternity bra and maternity pants on. Is this what the DA is saying?
weak motive in my opinion....my wife is gonna be angry if he walks....I told her early on that circumstantial even if damning was tough to run on alone in the face of serious legal defense.
Yes..The pros said either night of 23rd or morning of 24th..but suggested hands were the murder weapon..Remember closings are arguments..not testimony..They left it up to the jury as to time.
I think he killed her the night of the 23rd.
It isn't weak if you have studied narcissism...Listening to his phone calls he was into living a fantasy of successful, wealthy globe trotting, bon vivant..He needed to be center or the universe and it was happening at home anymore...Freedom from responsibility of living up to expectations of fatherhood role...He just wanted that chapter closed as he was
writing a new book..plot yet developing. He is the coldest. most manipulative con I have seen revealed at trial.
lol...I am a freeper you know...

(Fun thread.)
Tomorrow. That's it. I think it will come in just before or just after lunch. Just before, more likely. It'll be second degree murder, two counts. Call me Miss cleo!
Oh boy I LOVE Beth's hair. I have hair that is so naturally straight it is a huge pain in the butt. I'd give anything to have naturally curly hair. I don't think her hair looks terrible and besides she's so sweet and rather attractive too.
