In closing, prosecutor says parenthood pushed Scott Peterson to kill
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife because fatherhood threatened his "fantasyland" double life as a "rich, successful, freewheeling bachelor," a prosecutor told jurors during closing arguments Monday in his capital murder trial.
Prosecutor Rick Distaso said the fertilizer salesman strangled or smothered his 27-year-old spouse, Laci, in their home on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24, 2002, so he could be free of the lifetime of responsibilities the child would bring.
"He didn't want adult married life. He didn't want Conner Peterson," Distaso said, referring to the child Laci Peterson was carrying.
The prosecutor said Peterson had long maintained two lives "the perfect husband" in public and in private, a cad grudgingly tolerating his marriage but the birth of his first child and the expense of raising the boy or paying child support jeopardized the secret side he treasured.

Verdict pool:
Guilty - 1st degree for both
Verdict on Mon. 11/8...around 3:00ish.
I wonder if it's a waste of taxpayer's money to sterilize the needle...after all what's the point ?
Why not let's just let Sharon Rocha administer the needle!

I'll take Wednesday, first thing.
2 1st degrees, death penalty.
The fact that Lee and Jackie got up there and showed where their son got his, er, sense of character from, they'll have no mercy.
Then Sharon will sue them all in civil court for aiding and abetting!

You think that quick Vel??? I'm not sure but I doubt they will be out for a week. I just don't see it. I give them tops till next Wednesday.

Jury Begins Deliberations In The Peterson Case
REDWOOD CITY -- Jurors began deliberating the fate of Scott Peterson Wednesday, more than five months after testimony began in his double murder trial.
Judge Alfred A. Delucchi sent the panelists off with lunch into the jury room after about 45 minutes of instructions.
Jurors must decide whether Peterson killed his pregnant wife and dumped her body in San Francisco Bay, or was merely a straying husband who was framed. He plans to keep the jury sequestered until it reaches a verdict.
"You can't base a reasonable doubt on an unreasonable interpretation of the evidence," prosecutor Rick Distaso told jurors in a brief rebuttal Wednesday to the defense closing argument. "It's just not reasonable that anyone put that body in the bay to frame him. If it's not reasonable, you must reject it."......

November 4, 2004 -- REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Scott Peterson's prosecution ridiculed the defense yesterday for suggesting Laci was not slain by her philandering husband, but by some covert pack of marauding vagrants who rove the leafy California suburb.
"You've got to feel bad for the homeless people in this case," prosecutor Rick Distaso quipped. ........

Arguments conclude, case goes to jury
Updated: 2:00 p.m. PST -The sequestered jurors in Scott Peterson's murder trial were to begin deciding his fate today as soon as they finish lunch, the judge said this morning after both sides presented closing arguments.
"You can discuss it till you're blue in the face, but not when you're not in the jury room, not with the alternates and not with any staff at that hotel," Judge Alfred Delucchi told them.

NEWS IMAGES of Rebuttal Hearing
They look pretty glum, don't they??
I'm terrible at predictions but here goes:
Verdit (if there is one) on Friday. If deliberations go beyond Friday I think it will hang.
Verdict will be 1st degree. Sentence LWOP.
The second degree possibility is interesting. I think there is plenty of premeditation evidence but others may not agree.
IF the verdict comes in this quickly, then he is guilty but they will go for life inprisonment, since most of the evidence is circumstancial.
IF deliberations go over two weeks, the jury is hung.
Just my 2 cents and that's about all it's worth!!!
sw
Scott sure had that SMUG I'M GONNA GET OFF look wiped off his face during the rebuttal, didn't he? It's the first time I've ever seen a pic of him looking worried, concerned. THIS is the look he SHOULD have had when his beautiful, soon to give birth, wife went missing.
Tick tock........tick tock.....
Heard some transcripts were read or asked from the jurors? I just heard the end part of the top of the hour news.... Reading the Court TV blog report, there is or was a court hearing regarding media and the Det..... nothing more
