Wait--Rush made it sound like he just won it! I thought that he lost but that they couldn't copy license numbers. What's going on? Why aren't there federal observers after what happened in 2002 to Thune!?

It depends on how you view the ruling. The judge DID rule no Republican's can follow the Indians out to their cars and take down license numbers; he didn't rule no Republicans can poll-watch.

DASCHLE LAWYER FORCIBLY REMOVED FROM POLLING PLACE
Note this earlier post about the Daschle lawyer on Standing Rock who was disrupting the voting process and told others who raised questions "F--k you, do something about it." They did. He now has been forcibly removed from the polling place by the deputy sheriff. NOTE TO THE PRESS: ARE YOU CAPABLE OF REPORTING ANY OF THIS AND LEAVING YOUR COMFY NEWSROOMS? These reports are coming in from all over the state. What does the dean of political reporters at the Argus Leader say about all this? 'Nothing's happening.' If they really want to be taken seriously, they should report these things.

Daschle's Legal Gambit
From one of the most entertaining commentators on the Rapid City Journal's blog Mt. Blogmore:

It’s one thing to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic, another to grab the helm and guide the boat into the berg yourself.
Reckless and bafflingly self-destructive on Daschle’s part, this bid for legal intervention smacks of desperation: the road to political hell is paved with bad legal advice, to which many politicians can attest, but this self-inflicted wound was completely unnecessary, even as self-inflicted wounds go. Amazing somebody, somewhere, didn’t greaseboard this thing out well enough to shitcan the whole idea before somebody did something stupid.

From Mansiongate to the complete mismanagement of his national abortion strategy to an enfeebled and anemic GOTV in Indian Country, this campaign will survive, if it does, despite itself, but this strangely foolish move, backed by nearly nothing by way of courtroom testimony, promises to galvanize Thune supporters on the eve of the election as nothing else could.

Daschle's Successor?
See the article entitled "The Happiest Man in Nevada," about Senator Harry Reid, Daschle's deputy. Excerpt:

I have no doubt in my mind that [Reid's] staff — visions of their new offices and elevated status dancing in their heads — have located the South Dakota Secretary of State's election-results homepage and are eagerly awaiting the results. And, when those results come in tonight — when Tom Daschle goes down to defeat in South Dakota — Harry Reid will have already received calls from Democratic power brokers across the nation and, more specifically, from the Senate. They will be calling about Reid's new position as Senate Minority Leader. ... Sure, Reid will mouth some half-hearted lament about Daschle's defeat. He will probably laud Daschle's courageous stands on the issues, or compliment Tom's great political courage. But Daschle's career will be over, and the Democratic machine (with the exceptions of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and David Kranz) won't waste too much time mourning his loss.

It seems quite evident which camp Satan is firmly in....

Shoulda sued in New Jersey, Tiny Tom! THEY'D have done it for you...

This judge would have done it, too, except that the bloggers cast a spotlight on the court proceedings while the hearing was still going on. No more secrecy.

So is Reid up for re-elect in 06?

If Reid obstructs the way Daschle did, and do it with a smaller minority, he may be ripe for knocking off as well.
