In general elections, Dixville Notch went solidly for losers Richard Nixon in 1960, Barry Goldwater in '64 and, Hubert Humphrey in '68, then finally picked a winner with Nixon in '72, only to see him quit at midterm. In 1976, their choice was Michigan's Gerald Ford, who lost to Jimmy Carter. In 1980 and '84, they liked Reagan, as did most of the country. George H.W. Bush was their pick in 1988, but Dixville Notch didn't back another winner until George W. Bush in 2000.

Appeals judges I think should just sit in the courtrooms of these rogue cherry picked federal district judges, and reverse them on the spot in the last minute election manuevers. The whole thing is totally out of control.

UPDATE: AP is reporting that the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned the two Ohio district courts that were blocking Republican observers at the polls (story below):

CINCINNATI (AP) - A federal appeals court has cleared the way for challengers to be present at polling places in Ohio, ruling early Tuesday that their presence on Election Day is allowed under state law. A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 to grant emergency stays of two federal judges' orders Monday that barred political parties' voter challengers in Ohio.

Heard this mentioned on WBZ radio (Boston) at 1 am. Yes, the tradition continues of the midnight vote in the tiny northern NH town which features a huge hotel, the Balsams, but not too many residents.

New Hampshire has bucked the trend of picking the winner in the primaries and the finals. If you go to Concord, right near the State House there's another State building which has tiles near the sidewalk which tell who won the state in a given year. In '92, it was Paul Tsongas in the NH Dem primary(but Clinton finished 2nd and proclaimed himself "the Comeback Kid") and Pat Buchanan was the Rep. winner.

When this thread first started the title was NH Town has 15-15-1 : A Tie! (or somehting like that). Later it was edited to reflect the real vote.

The funny thing is that so many people from MA move to NH to get away from the high taxes. Then they vote for higher taxes in NH.
