OK, I've never confessed this to anyone, not even my wife. The first election I voted in, back in '72, I actually voted for McGovern. I wisened up a couple of years later and have not voted Rat since. (You know the saying about if you're 20 and conservative you've got no heart, and if you're 40 and liberal you've got no brains).
That must have been the same year when I was 11. In school, we had a mock election and I voted McGovern since everybody else was (Illinois).
When I got home and told my Dad, he really went ballistic yelling at me! I've forgotten lots of things from my childhood but that stands out!
