Guys, don't panic.
Here's the math using Gallup's own numbers:
Start with the (
"pop up")
RealClearPolitics Electoral Count figure of 232 "secured" Bush states, which Gallup does not change in any way. Then using the (
"pop up")
latest Gallup "Showdown" polling data you make the following additions:
Pennsylvania - 21 Electoral Votes
Wisconsin - 10 Electoral Votes
Iowa - 7 Electoral Votes
And that gets you to 270 and re-election. I also want to add my comment that the weekend nature of the polls probably understates Bush's lead, but this does indicate a late surge for Kerry. Keep an eye on Mason-Dixon and Quinnipiac as viable alternative sources of polling information.
Eliminate the bogus Florida and Ohio data, and it shows no such kerry surge. Too many good polling firms have the same dates polled, and Bush is either even or ahead in Ohio, and all have Bush up in Florida.
