SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- President Bush and John Kerry are not only distant cousins -- they can be traced back to Count Dracula.

That's according to Provo's reputable genealogical research company MyFamily-dot-com.

The search firm says both presidential candidates are loosely related through as many as 34 generations to the man who became known as Count Dracula.

He was born in 1431 as Prince Vlad the third, and he ruled southern Romania for a time.

MyFamily-dot-com says it showed the bloodthirsty warlord's connection to modern times have a little fun before Halloween.

But the company insists it's NOT making this up -- Bush and Kerry and thousands of others descended from County Dracula's family.

If researchers could trace back relations to the dawn of human history, they could show that everybody's related to everybody.

C'mon folks, let's have things in perspective. Being related to Vlad Tepec, sometimes surnamed Dracula, as a diminitive of his father's honorific surname Dracul (= the Dragon) might be regarded as a good thing these days.

After all, the last time the Muslims were really serious about fighting jihad, Vlad Tepec sent Mehmet the Conqueror back to the newly conquored Constantinople with his tail between his legs after he saw the treatment of the Turkish prisoners and dead. Vlad is one of those we can thank for the defense of Christendom, along with Charles Martel, St. Lazar and those who fell with him on the Field of Kosovo, the Emperor Leo the Isaurian who stablized the Imperial frontier against the first Muslims onslaught, the Venetian and Spanish admirals and sailors at Lepanto, the defenders of Vienna and the Polish relief column which saved the city.

Wow... this is the weirdest election in my lifetime. Since both candidates supposedly have a connection to the Count, I guess the undecided vampire vote will go to... Nadar?
