CIA, FBI AUTHENTICATE NEW QAEDA TERROR TAPE; ABCNEWS EXECUTIVES CONSIDER POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF AIRING

The CIA and FBI late Wednesday authenticated a disturbing new al Qaeda videotape which warns the next terror attack will dwarf 9/11.
"The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead, a man claims on the video.
Further claims on the video: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.
ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend. The network has withheld airing it, initially citing concerns over its authenticity.
One senior federal official alleged ABCNEWS is now holding back from broadcasting any portion of the video out of fear it will be seen as a political move by the network during election week.
One ABC source, who demanded anonymity, said Thursday morning, the network was struggling to find a correct journalistic "balance."
"This is not something you just throw out there while people are voting," the ABC source explained.
A second ABC source told DRUDGE: "We continue to report this story aggressively."

The terrorist's face is concealed by a headdress, and he speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual.
The tape appears to be from al-Qaeda's media liaison organization. It has a banner crediting the Sahab Production Committee. The speaker refers to Bin Ladin and Zawahiri as "our leaders" and praises the 11 September attacks.
Intelligence officials believe:
Videotape message likely produced in late summer '04 due to references to current events such as the 9/11 Commission.
Individual is college educated, either American born or raised in the U.S.
The U.S. is actively seeking to identify the individual. Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman of Southern California - remains the chief candidate but another still unknown individual may be possible.
US intelligence officials say the danger is that if this individual is an American citizen, he will be immersed in the culture and customs and have the ability to travel in America freely and unnoticed.

You know, one would almost think the media applies a different standard for broadcasting a story "during an election" as between stories that help kerry and stories that might help Bush.
I know that can't really be the case, but it almost seems that way sometimes.

I'm sure we are going to see the tape, but I'm glad ABC is not the one to air it. The terrorists want a major network to air the tape. Once they realize that no network is going to do it they will dump it elsewhere.

They basically run the same stories in the same order with the same slant. ABC is no better or worse than the rest.
The only exception is the Fox News Channel, which gives staight news straight and labels commentary as commentary.
Maybe not, maybe I am a bit of a sensationalist, but what I am first and formost is a patriot, and second of all a die-hard republican. I woke up to the events on 9/11, my sleep disrupted by hearing Cavuto talk about a then thought "accidental" crash into the north tower, and saw on LIVE TV the second plane hit the south tower. If ABC believes its a terror threat and is authentic, and the CIA and FBI have independently authenticated it, then pre or post election, our homeland is in iminent danger of attack, and all measures must be taken to either prevent it, contain and minimize the damage if unavoidable (someone willing to kill themselves is darn near impossible to stop), and retaliate massively following such. As such they need to open the silos, sortie the bombers (target: Mecca and Medina) put fighters in the air in major cities, mobilize all stateside national guard units and put the city county and state police on full alert, becuase if something like this happens, America needs to do to Islam what Rome did to Carthage, destroy their lands and sow the ground with SALT!!!!

If this is a real terror threat, and the CIA and FBI have looked at it and agree it is a real threat, WHY can't Tom Ridge release the Video himself? Why would he allow ABC to decide WHEN Americans can be warned of another attack? Doesn't make sense to me.
The only network that has the tape is ABC, that's why it has not shown up on any cable channel.
ABC thinks the political implications of airing the tape right now might outweigh its news value. (IOW, it might help Bush by reminding voters the WOT is real.)
