Anchor Upset DOD Hasn't Taken Abu Ghraib Fall

October 21, 2004 | 13:52:21 EDT
People who live in glass anchor booths shouldn't throw stones. Even though CBS has not even suspended any of the figures in the Memogate scandal and lied about having an "unimpeachable source," last night, Dan Rather chastised the U.S. Defense Department on its handling of the Abu Ghraib prison investigation.
"At a U.S. Army court-martial in Baghdad today, a guilty plea from the highest- ranking soldier yet charged in the Abu Ghraib prisoner-abuse scandal. In a plea-bargain deal, staff sergeant Ivan Frederick, a Virginia reservist, admitted to five charges, including assault, indecency and mistreating detainees. He's expected to be sentenced tomorrow. No officer has yet been charged and no one in the defense department has accepted full responsibility or been held accountable."

That's fine if Dan wants to believe that a jailhouse sex ring was set up by Don Rumsfeld, but if the military investigation doesn't prove that, he has no business saying so if he wants the results of CBS's "independent" investigation not to be called into question.
