Prayers for a good man.
Thyroid cancer is usually quite treatable but at his advanced age.....
Sure hope Daschle goes down.

Ohio? I thought it was Iowa

I disagree. These are RATS were talking about and I think it is very dangerous to underestimate them. These are the same morons that held up the proper election of BUSH last time around and delayed the transfer of power. This lead to a weakening of our country and caused the divisiveness we see today.
The DIMs are attempting massive voter fraud on an unprecedented scale. They have no respect for common decency and if they filibuster a USSC appointment it will just be another step to thwart BUSH, and it will be justified by the MSM.

And nastier if Kerry loses.

The news is likely to shake up the campaign trail because the next president could help tip the balance on the nation's highest court, which now stands in a loose 5-4 conservative majority.

Thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable of all cancers. Unless it is extremely advanced, metastasized and caused other issues, I have a hard time seeing how it would disable him, even at his age. He has a good chance of eradicating it.

Just lurking on the Dark Side. They are saying that this is a Rove move and that its not breaking news and Rove planted this to get off the story of Bill Clinton and also the Weapons story. I did not think about it, but that is the effect of the story. Too funny!

Small states won't go for it. But then again, the general electorate gets their daily news from the LIBs so it may just work!

I forgot to mention that my father was in his seventies when he got it, and is now in his late 80's. It usually is VERY treatable, and if the Court is saying he will be back next week, it is probably the less serious type.

The news is likely to shake up the campaign trail because the next president could help tip the balance on the nation's highest court, which now stands in a loose 5-4 conservative majority. Saw CNN over lunch. They devoted at least 20 minutes on this subject. The libs smell blood and are ready to attack. The Communist News Network (CNN) thrilled at the chance to replace Rehnquist with Kerry, litmus tested pro-abortion judge.
May the Lord deliver us from wicked men!

It makes for a vacancy on the court - same as if he resigns... one opening for a assoc. justice; and another opening amongst the 8 for Chief Justice.Wasn't Warren Burger a circuit judge when Nixon tapped him to replace Earl Warren?

Unless it's anaplastic thyroid cancer most patients die with, rather than from, thyroid cancer.

Whoever is elected president next week will likely have 2 or 3 appointments to the USSC in his term. Both sides know this, the MSM does too. Frankly, I have been amazed that the Bush campaign hasn't made more mileage out of a sKerry Court.
The MSM will not tolerate an indefinite filibuster to appointments to the USSC. Both sides will play hardball, but the vacancies will ultimately be filled.

Recess appointment (without Senatorial action) is good for one year. Appoint the black woman from the California Supreme Court and dare the Demonrats to do something about it. Or appoint Clarence Thomas C.J. and her or a Hispanic pro-lifer as A.J., both on recess appointments. Let Leahy, Kennedy, Daschle (if he survives his election), Chuckie Schumer, Diane Feinswine, et al. rage in favor of dumping them and face the kind of backlash from black/Hispanic grassroots folks that will reprise the first Thomas controversy. Keep on nominating them until confirmed and blowtorch dissenting Demonrats.
Of course, this is academic if Rehnquist survives.
The Chief Justice is much more than a single vote on the court. His administrative powers are major and little known. We cannot allow the Chief's job to be filled by compromise.

Thyroid cancer usually is not lethal. The lethality of anything is exponentially greater when the patient is an octogenarian as opposed to a younger patient.

Yes--and Earl Warren before him was Governor of California (either when appointed or just before.) So, 2 of the last 3 CJ's were from outside the court. (Sorry, my knowledge doesn't go further back!)

Nothing is easily treated in patients past 80. Common colds are a big deal at that age.
