That's right. Regan was president when MLK day became a national holiday. And Lincoln, a Republican, endorsed the Emancipation Proclamation. The Democrats were a relatively new party then, but they firmly opposed the Proclamation.
Little has changed. Do you know that Democratic attack ad where blacks are being hosed down? The ad says something to the effect of "This is how Republicans used to keep blacks from voting." Guess which party hacks ordered the hoses? Those folks were the segregationist Southern DEMOCRATIC party!
There's a reason the Dems still don't want excellent public schools for all. People might learn history.
