The big difference is that when democrat candidates do it, it's for the photo op. When the president does it, you don't even hear about it. That's because getting elected isn't the most important thing in his world and when he attends a church, black or white, he isn't there to troll for votes, but to worship and to be among the people, or in some cases, to express his concern and compassion for their grief and loss. Unlike the typical democrat candidate, he doesn't need to have a camera on him to show he is somebody.
What I find even "funnier", to use your term, is that if a minister preaches from the scriptures something that, by its very nature, damns the policies of the democrat party, they start screaming and shouting "separation of church and state" and "hate speech" and going after the church's tax exempt status, but these same democrats have no propblem at all with democrat political candidates campaigning FROM THE PULPITS, typically in black churches. What is wrong with this picture?
"Look, I care for myself. I don't need white liberals or white Republicans caring for me."
Amen. The whole issue of "who does most for Blacks" is a fight on enemy ground. The best politician any American, including Black Americans, could attend to was Newt Gingrich, whose basic message to all, was "come on in the water's fine."
Sounds like you jumped in and found it out for yourself. Congratulations and belated welcome to FR.
saying blacks are slaves to Kerry/DNC is both false and insulting. I am a Democrat. I know typing as much may cause my account to get banned. If you want an honest and civl exchange on this issue, I'm all for it.
Give me a break! Black people are political prisoners of the DNC. They are not allowed to vote for conservatives because their religious leaders tell them it would be sinful.
Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton are the corner stones of black morality, and in the black community their words are golden.
UNLEASHING the "Big Dog" will increase black turnout for Kerry--and the dems know that!!! Turnout will be key in this election.
I redeem my little bit of French blood by saying that my ancestors were the ones smart enough to get the heck out!
Well welcome to FR. I don't think all black people are slaves to Kerry and the DNC. I do think a lot of black people don't like George Bush and consider the people of the republican party and not the issues.

According to two polls released over the week just passed, President Bush has picked up significant ground among black voters. A New York Times poll showed black support for the president at 17 percent. A poll of larger scope done by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, an organization specializing in studying black issues, showed 18 percent black support for Bush. Although black support at this level for Bush/ Cheney is still low, it nevertheless represents a doubling of the 8 percent of the black vote that the Republican ticket received in 2000.
I give Sharpton and Jackson about the same amount of credence I give Reverend Moon, the Bakers, and the tv evangalist
How do you explain 90% of black people voting for the Democrats in 2000? Does the black population believe the NAACP that if Bush is re-elected he will bring back slavery?
Please don't tell me what I and most black people think.
Im not trying to guess what you think, but the black community is pretty easy to read when they vote for Gore 90% and for Bush with 9%. Rev Sharpton and Rev Jackson play a huge part in bring the black vote to the democrats. You may not give them much credence, but the democrats think high enough of them to run them in national elections.

I believe it is the uneducated black voters who cling to the Democrats.

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
Wouldn't have anything to do with what comes across the pulpit could it?!?
As a Christian who loves all brothers and sisters in Christ and who has been very dismayed by black Christians who support pro-abortion candidates (while they themselves are pro-life), this is very heartening to hear.
If I had to point to one thing that has kept black and white Christians segregated, it is the Republican/Democrat political divide. I guess most Christians haven't figured out that Christ said, "My kingdom is not of this world." But then again, it's hard for there not to be division, when it is a matter of life and death cultural issues.
It's also sad to see so many black Christians deluded by their ministers and leaders to believe that a vote for Republicans is going to bring back lynching and Jim Crow. How can their be unity in the body when "anointed" leaders proclaim hate from the pulpit in order to fatten their own wallets from the backs of their sheep?
Welcome to Free Republic. My condolences, though, on your party affiliation - as Larry Elder would say.
I was a single mother for seven years and changed parties because the DemocratIC party just wants to constantly give entitlements to those undeserving.
I believe there is a strong majority of blacks that are evangelical and do NOT want abortion, or gay marriage.....bottom line.
You should thank your parents for making sure you got an education, and kudos to you for completing school. Do you really think Clinton made blacks millionaires, or was it blacks themselves going out and making it happen? Under Clinton, how many blacks were appointed to his cabinet? Who was that black gentleman who wanted to be chair of the DNC before McCaullife and his ilk forced him out? BTW, Alan Greenspan didn't give somebody a check to go start a business. Why thank him to any extent?
