I have a 20-year-old son (my only son) who was born with just one functioning kidney.

When he was a baby, the only "positive" thing I could extract from the situation was that at least I wouldn't have to worry about losing him on some future battlefield.

Wouldn't you know...he recently mentioned to me that he asked a recruiter if he could get a waiver on his medical status so that he might enlist and serve in Iraq - - yes, he really wants to.

I was both shocked and very proud of his admission, even though I would probably be a basket case for as long as he would serve (like any other military parent).

Contrast that with the Kerry campaign's attempts at inducing fear among (healthy) American youth that GWB may re-institute the draft...even though it's a completely bogus campaign ploy.

I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe.

God bless you and your brave son.

There are no words adequate enough to express my gratitude to those that serve selflessly and willingly to preserve my freedoms.
