From today's Modesto Bee print edition...

QUOTES

"Is there anything particular about having DUI convictions that reduces the credibility of testimony?" — defense attorney Mark Geragos

"Not that I know of." — Bertalotto

"Last time I checked, both the president and the vice president of the United States had drunk driving convictions. So as far as we know, (prosecutors) just slimed him, basically?" — Geragos, about Clark

"It may affect his ability to recall." — Delucchi

"Except for the fact that he was sober." — Geragos

"That's for the jury to decide." — Delucchi

"There were a lot of suggestions, armchair investigators, psychic stuff. Frankly, there was a lot of wasted paper." — Bertalotto, on the majority of some 10,000 tips in the case

"What information is there to support the statement you just made?" — March, to prosecutor Dave Harris

"He asks the questions, you give the answers." — Delucchi, to March, drawing boisterous laughter from the audience

"We're still going to have this case completed next week, barring any unforeseen circumstances." — Delucchi, to jurors

SEEN AND HEARD

Several jurors grimaced when the judge told them they will be sequestered while deliberating, presumably in a hotel. "I think you'll enjoy it," said Delucchi, who often uses humor when addressing the jury. Some jurors shook their heads from side to side.

Scott Peterson's sister and sister-in-law spoke briefly during the noon recess, right after March said Conner lived longer than prosecutors think. "It's very much a two-edged sword," sister-in-law Janey Peterson said. "To hear … that our sister-in-law and nephew were killed is not fun information to hear, but at the same time it shows that Scott's innocent."

The defendant's sister Susan Caudillo appeared to choke up as she said: "We're just very sad, very sad. Laci possibly was — Laci was around for four days, and the police weren't looking for her. That makes us very angry."
