This race is similar to Reagan-Carter, as Reagan was down about 5 points until the debates then things changed. Of course that's a scary thought because Reagan won big that time as the challanger and this time Kerry is the challanger and it would mean Bush may turn out like another Carter.

Kerry is no Reagan newbie. Kerry wouldn't qualify to be a pimple on Reagan's ass.

Bush will never turn out like Carter should he be re-elected or not. Economy is being run much better, foreign policy is much better, the rest of administration is, on average, much better. If Bush is not reelected this time, four years of Kerry would likely make Bush a viable candidate in 2008.

Welcome to FR.

This year is nothing like 1980. Reagan had big leads in the summer.

He took the lead for good right after the one debate.

I have serious doubt you are a Republican.

NOTHING LIKE 1980 ... Reagan won the debates and once the people were comfortable with him, they fired Carter on the spot.

This year, Kerry's very weakness is how much he critiques the President. Bush made the *right* decision on Iraq no matter how hard Kerry tries to paint it as wrong.

This is like 1996 in some ways... Or my preference, this is like 1864. See:
