I have never been in the military, my husband is a Viet vet.. I would imagine the word "mess" could be a synonym for "war" in that something that is unpredictable and dangerous is bound to be messy. That is why I am constantly amazed to hear Kerry and even military "experts" on the cable shows, accusing Bush of being a lousy president because he didn't anticipate and "know" everything that was gonna happen from the moment we crossed the border of Iraq to this very moment. Who was it that said that every war plan last until the first enemy contact or something like that?
I would just surmise that every war is messy until the bad guys are defeated.
