DEAR EDITOR:
Lie and deny all you want, but every single death resulting from Iraq's invasion was caused by and is squarely at the feet of George W. Bush. Bush is not known for being smart; he is, however, well known for being stubborn. There is nothing admirable in his avowal to "stay the course" in Iraq. He has no choice. There can be no turning back now, much less sending the troops home. The die was cast by Bush soon after he took office when he was so determined to invade Iraq because "it was easy."
How on earth is it possible to declare that Bush's complete destruction and on-going reconstruction of the small country of Iraq that has cost thousands of American and Iraqi lives plus billions of taxpayer dollars and that posed absolutely no threat is the "end-all" war against terrorism? At the time of the invasion, the Islamic terrorists had no ties whatsoever to Iraq; they were and are free-lancers who can and do pop up anywhere, as they did on 9/11.
While Bush was sacrificing the lives of our troops, these particular terrorists waltzed around in our country with no opposition whatsoever, spread out and brazenly entered various flight schools, asked for and received lessons to "fly a plane only," with improper and incomplete paperwork. When an Arizona flight school warned Washington, it was blatantly ignored. Would it not be reasonable to assume that, if the warning had been followed up, investigated and alerts sent out to other flight schools, that these terrorists would have been exposed, routed and 9/11 prevented?
Another question for the Bushite know-alls: Even if and when order is restored to some degree in Iraq, how on earth can it possibly serve as a shining example of democracy, as Bush and followers are parroting, so that North Korea, Iran and all the terrorists will lay down their arms and peace and goodwill will reign over the Middle East and entire world? Let's get real, here.
I only seek sensible, level-headed explanations; spare me, please, of all the name-calling and attempts at cleverness such as letter-writer Larry T.'s suggestion that when I look at a doughnut, I only see a hole." Mr. T, the hole I see has nothing to do with a doughnut; it is the bottomless pit Bush has dug for us.

Editor's note: The Sept. 11 terror attacks referenced by Ms. Durham took place prior to the invasion of Iraq, not afterward.I have seen the highs and lows in our school system. I have now seen an all-time low.
Most "intellectual" liberal Kerry supporters are simply educated beyond their intelligence.
