A good sign. It says Republicans are energized.

Do you think this early interest in "early" voting in TX could be part of the Democrats' efforts to get out the vote for their half dozen U.S. House candidates in competitive races, such as Charles Stenholm? Apparently Abilene in the Stenholm district had a very high turnout Monday.

Voted this morning, waited 15-20 minutes in line at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Garland, Texas. They checked and double-checked, touchscreen voting was easy and your "Vote" button doesn't light up to be pushed until all the fields are filled out and you review it.

Even a Dem could figure it out - if some Dems beside the disenfranchised or the dead show up.

I remember that early voting in TX goes back to at least 1982. Does anyone know if it goes back even earlier?

I'm uncomfortable with early voting.

It lets the other side know just how much they need to cheat to surpass the legal votes.

At 1 polling location (out of 12) in Collin county, there were 580 people who voted on the first day.

There was an article on the local TV news yesterday that Williamson Co. had 5,559 turn out for the early voting yesterday. I told my wife that there were probably over 5,000 Republican votes and the rest for the RATs. She laughed.

Charly Stenholm will not be going back to Washington after this election. I can assure you of that. Lubbock and all over the West Texas area are out in full force for Randy. We stood in line for an hour and half and I had my Bush button on and showed it to several in line and they put the thumbs up. These long lines are going to help President Bush, I think people are proud to go vote early for our President. People were saying things like I want to make sure I get my vote in, so that if I were to die, my vote for W would count.

But won't half of Charlas voters end up being Bush voters too?

I guess that can work if you don't use computerized voting. But here in Dallas County, Texas, they scanned my voters' registration card when I was in the first line and checked it against my drivers' license. Printed out something for me to give at the next checkpoint. The next checkpoint chickee checked all that, made me sign and gave me another form to stand in the booth line.

If you vote for Charlie, your voting for Kerry, IMHO

I work at our poll in Riverside Co CA. Our list of registered voters indicates which have absentee ballots. If they turn their absentee ballot in when they show up then can vote on election day. We send them to get it if they didn't bring it with them.

We get a list on election morning that shows who's voted at the malls etc.

the early votes are not counted until after the polls close on election day. They are in locked boxes and then put in a safe area, to not be touched until election is closed.

What if you registered once as "LAST, FIRST MIDDLE" and registered again as "LAST, FIRST M."... You would have 2 registration numbers, and could vote twice if you came twice to the polls and no one noticed.

I'll be voting this Saturday. The weekday alt polling places close at 4:30 this week and I don't get off work until 5:00.

I thought with electronic voting that the results were sent electronically to the Supervisor of Elections. That doesn't exactly sound like something one can put in a box. Are the voting machines not closed out until election day?

I have attempted to vote here in Austin on Monday, Tuesday and this morning by the line at the HEB on S. Congress was way too long each time I went.

Lots of people very eager to vote!
