Can you explain what you mean by the popular tally? I'm in Florida and it took me almost 2 hours to vote. A good majority of the people voting in my precinct were elderly or retired

The actual count of votes cast by voters nationwide.

Unlike other offices, the President (and VP) are not elected
by direct balloting. You are voting for a slate of electors,
who cast the actual votes in the Electoral College.

It is possible for a candidate to win the popular vote,
and lose the election, and vice versa. The Dems like to
claim that Bush lost the pop in 2000, but we don't really
know, because a lot of states where he won by a large
margin stopped counting, esp. the absentee ballots.
