Do you think that chain gangs would be better --- it has to be very boring inside a prison --- it seems some hard work would solve some of the problems that likely come on with all the idle time people have on their hands. I think they should segregate the prisoners based on what they did to get themselves into prison and on their behavior after they're in --- but the very violent having to live together are not going to live better than they would have anyhow.
Coming from someone who has worked on work gangs, ie chain gains with out the chains, yes, chain gangs are great ideas for those who are a low escape risk.
Prisons do segragate based on the severity of the sentence. This usually means segregation based on the severity of the offenders violence.
I don't know that there is an answer. I do know that all those in prison should not be there. I know that Freepers should save their bravatto for those who are guilty not just those who are charged.
When you have those who would condemn O'reilly because the complaint sounds "credible" you cringe to know that these people might be on a jury where they believe that a person is guilty because he is sitting behind the defendant table.
Let's make certain these people are guilty, and then protect them from each other as well as civilized people can so that when they get out they are not bigger monsters than they were when they were put in the system.
