Last Debate Kerry, Private Sector Jobs only, once again
Fox News, United States Bureau of Labor Statistics ^ | 10/13/04 | MikeConservative

KERRY: I'll tell you exactly how I can do it: by reinstating what President Bush took away, which is called pay as you go.

During the 1990s, we had pay-as-you-go rules. If you were going to pass something in the Congress, you had to show where you are going to pay for it and how.

President Bush has taken — he's the only president in history to do this.

He's also the only president in 72 years to lose jobs — 1.6 million jobs lost. He's the only president to have incomes of families go down for the last three years; the only president to see exports go down; the only president to see the lowest level of business investment in our country as it is today.

Now, I'm going to reverse that. I'm going to change that. We're going to restore the fiscal discipline we had in the 1990s.

John Kerry has once again excluded jobs from his numbers, saying 1.6 million jobs have been lost, while only counting private sector jobs against the job loss. He has not said that he is counting only Private Sector Jobs. The First Link is to Fox news, a transcript of the last debate, the second a link to Bureau of Labor Statistics, showing both Total Nonfarm Jobs, as well as Private Sector Only. The difference I get is over 800,000 jobs.

I question that stat that kerry spewed about 50% of black people in NY are unemployed. It sounded like he's just twisting stats to say what he wants again.

What I don't understand is, if there are no jobs being created in this country, what do all the illegal aliens do when they get here?

Kerry talks of jobs gong overseas: BMW, Honda, Nissan, Toyota have plants in USA, they "outsourced jobs TO the US. How soon will jfk ORDER them OUT of the USA and shut the plants down? Hold your breath.

If we've lost all these jobs, how is the unemployment rate only 5.4%? Kerry's figures also use the establishment survey. These numbers thus exclude people who are self-employed, work as consultants, work for newly established businesses or work for businesses that are too small to show up on the establishment survey. Anyone know off hand what the household survey says about job growth during the Bush administration?

unfortunately, I wrongly assumed that bls had changed to a format in which you can go directly to results from a link
For those who haven't used BLS or aren't all that computer savvy

Bureau of Labor statistics http://www.bls.gov/home.htm
Under Employment and Unemployment click National Employment under Get Detailed CES Statisitics click create customized tables (One Screen)
1st
1.All Employees, thousands 2.Total Nonfarm 3. Total Nonfarm should be highlighted by default. 4. Seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted can be both checked 5. Add to selection

2nd
1.All Employees, thousands 2. Total private 3.Total Private should be highlighted by default 4. Again both Seasonally Adjusted and not Seasonally adjusted 5. Add to your selection

5-get data

this should show both the total jobs and private jobs, in seperate charts
By looking at both and subtracting from apporpriate dates, I got close to Kerry's 1.6 million claim for private, and some 800,000+ jobs not counted from Kerry's version

There may be a more simple way to do this but this is intended to just explain how to get to the statistics for people who may not have used BLS or aren't computer savvy.

sorry for not responding much sooner. As you may know,we've got quite a good chance of gaining jobs before George W's first term is over.
