You're correct. Kerry was at his condescending, negative, gloomy worst; W was at his upbeat, energetic, HONEST best.
Don't forget Kerry was also slimy in the way he mentioned VP Cheney's daughter. That was dirty nasty slimy; I don't think the squishy middle will like anyone bringing that up in such a ghastly manner.
