I do agree with you, Lawgirl. Complacency is why Bush did so poorly in the first debate, I think. He just thought he had the election in the bag and didn't rest up or prepare enough

That's just wrong. The Bush campaign has said for months and months this race was going to be close. Complacency is the last thing I would accuse the President of.

Well I like to think that President Bush didn't debate well the first time because he didn't put enough effort into preparing or because he didn't rest up before the debate. I do hate to think that he was just flustered and couldn't come up with good responses to Kerry's attacks.
