SEATTLE -- A man shot to death by police outside a football stadium has been identified by his family as one of the winners of an $87 million lottery jackpot.
Rick Camat, 32, was shot early Sunday as dozens of people fled to avoid a fight outside a bar before a St. Louis Rams-Seattle Seahawks game.
Police alleged that Camat was carrying a handgun and fired at a car that was leaving the area. Authorities said he crouched behind another vehicle and pointed a handgun at officers.
Relatives insisted Camat only fired into the air to break up the fight and said officers never issued a warning before shooting him.
"He shot once in the air to scare people away. He didn't aim it at anyone," said Camat's brother, Brian, who was with him at the time.
Officer Debra Brown said the family's account "differs vastly from the statements of dozens of witnesses who were at the scene that evening."
The officer who fired at Camat remains on paid administrative leave. An internal police review and a court inquest are planned.
Camat was one of 13 Starbucks employees in Los Angeles who shared an $87 million California lottery jackpot in 2000.
He recently bought a house in Federal Way, a suburb between Seattle and Tacoma, relatives said. He previously used his share of the lottery winnings to buy a house for his mother and cars for his siblings.
So,you made a mistake.
four other freepers called you on it... and as soon as I saw that, I asked the mod to pull mine. Get over it.
as for the 380 thou after taxes, if you are claiming to stand by that, then you are standing 'wrong.'
have a great day.
I think you have a fundamental misperception of the law. Secured debt is just that, secured. It does not go "poof." Unsecured debt goes "poof," sometimes in spectacular ways. If this guy had a mortgage on the house, the bank gets the house. It never belonged to anyone else in the first place. So the notion that someone "has to pick up the tab" is absurd.
The kid watched too many Westerns....and believed them.
Now he will have to pay a 50% death tax on money he already paid close to 40% income tax on after he won.
Funny math, funny man.

The article didn't mention he was nominated for another award: The Darwin Award.
What a rocket surgeon!
You can have more money than brains, BUT-not for long!
You missed the sarcasm. Remember Rather and his Memogate! I was just having a little fun mocking his statement. Go back and read it again. Read my other responses also and you will see that I am taking my lumps in good humor.
Only if Kerry wins. Do you think he will still vote for Kerry?
Actually, it would be around 3.8 million, plenty to buy a couple of houses and cars. Too bad he didn't use some of the money to have his head examined.
He may have already voted...absentee!
I did miss the sarcasm.
It was stupid of me to NOT get it.
so, I bit@h-slapped the snott outta me.
I asked them twice to pull the post...
they did... AFTER you read it.
just damn.
thanks for being so good-humored about it.
Robert, was WRONG.
Again.
Dammit.
I should give you the thread where I made a math error ...
He wasn't a threat, just a nuisance!
hahahaha....!
Neither did the guy who shot off a round into the air in Daly City a few July 4ths ago. When that bullet came down, it went right into a little girl's head. She was playing in the back yard a couple blocks over. Her Mom watched her drop and die.
we will now have 13 women comign forward saying that they are his wife..

Looks like the ol' persecution complex. Wonder what american racial subculture he affiliated himself with.
Something along those lines happened to a friend of mine about 15 years ago. He won the California lottery ($638K per year X 20 years). Wound up losing most of his friends, supporting a couple "daughters" he didn't even know he had, getting sued by his own lawyer (who he was stupid enough to get into a relationship with) and finally moving to a remote area far from everybody he knew. He's made very few friends since then. He's afraid to.
