Chechen terrorists probed
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.
The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia, according to officials familiar with intelligence reports.
Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona that is difficult for U.S. border security agents to monitor, said officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The intelligence report was supplied to the U.S. government in late August or early September and was based on information from an intelligence source that has been proved reliable in other instances, one official said.
A second U.S. official said the report is being investigated, but said it could not be determined whether the group of Chechens actually entered the country, as the intelligence source reported.
"We don't know whether or not that report is true," this official said. A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed ...

I think you're overestimating the difficulty. There are several engineering examples (Seabees and Army Corps of Engineers in Phillipines in WWII) and border control examples (USSR) that would seem to suggest it is really a matter of political will, not technology or economic capacity.

...less than 500 miles of border shared with Mexico that is navigable by foot or pickup truck
I assume that ignores swimming the Rio Grande?

Chechens are the ugliest and most cruel people when they are also terrorists. They have a large place to hide out in LA, as I recall. There is a homegroup/sizeable population of chechens there.

The US might as well put a big old freakin' welcome mat for the terrorist if they aren't going to step up and stop these vermin from coming in our country. It's bad enough the Mexicans are coming over illegally waisting mine as well as others hard earned money on their free everything, but now we have these Islamo fascist are crossing over! This is BS! Put the military on the border, something, just keep these people out! Screw votes, this is about protecting lives! What happened to honor?!

Many of the Apache People in this area would probably be thrilled to be offered tracking and interdiction jobs in these areas where they have always hunted and camped.
Deputize all that would care to join up in a much broader border protection effort. Give them 'liberal' rules of engagement leeway if challenged with resistance or force....
(allow for traditional Apache methods of dealing with enemies)

Native Americans exercising their rights to go out in the desert and gather Peyotes would not like this....

The president needs to come out and state that if Chechens committ an attack in the US, their homeland weill be immediately vaporized.

>They try it and not one of them will leave this country alive. No joke.
Leaving here alive is not their expectation. They, like the 9/11 hijackers are willing to die for Allah. To die in Jihad is the highest calling. It guarantees entry to Paradise.
To beat these SOBs, we must do a number of things.
#1, Learn to think as they do.
#2, Get tougher than they are.
Can we do #2? I don't know.
In a country where we raise couch potatoes and Moms are afraid of the draft, how do you oppose people who want to die for their cause?

Suppose the report proves true - terrorists entered via Arizona - and President Bush of course did not improve border control --- the blame will adhere to him forever. A nightmare in the making....

That becomes a self-fulfilling necessity. Every muslim agrees that the undeniable sign for physical jihad (violent holy war) is the suppression of the Islamic faith.
As they become more radicalized, it requires a greater effort to stamp them out but also makes it a greater necessity.
I would be more comfortable with the exercise of Islam in America if all other faiths (Christian, Jew, Hindu, Budhist, Wican, et al) were granted freedom in muslim nations; there was no distinction between muslim, Jew/Christian, and "all others" (infidel) in their laws; and a reformation movement declared that there is no justifiable cause for a violent Islamic "holy war".
Until that day comes, they are a blood cult that hijacked the text of the Judeo-Christian Bible and nothing but. I find Mohammed to be an antiChrist if not THE AntiChrist. He took the lessons and message of Christ, rewrote the Bible, and leads followers AWAY from Christ.

Your a terrorist who comes across the border in July. You hang around the US for 4 months waiting to do something? That doesn't make any sense. They would come in and try to get something done quickly before they were recognized. This to me is bogus--more like a gossip column article than hard news.

Well, I agree that it does sound a bit gossipy, but we all know who terrorists would rather have as the next president, someone who would look the other way. Elections are coming up imagine what trouble these guys could do....hell, aren't the Prez and Lurch in a western state today????

One attack on school children, or even a public open slaughter of Americans, and it will be open season on muslims in these United States.
