Really interesting show. It seems like a lot of seat-of-the-pants stuff going on in the development of the craft. How would something like this ever get into orbit?

Great show. Rutan gets choked up recalling the request from the group making the first private space probe to Pluto (they wanted to carry a piece of SpaceShipOne in their probe).

His simple, mechanical control system reminds me of some of the first designs of the Apollo lunar lander.

In 15 years there will be a game show and the winner will go on a mission to the moon. They might call it something like Giant Leap.

All of these private companies competing for wealthy tourist dollars will make that possible.

Here's the "Buck Rogers" LEM design from Nov1961:

I love this thing. Talk about a blast to fly. Seems like the perfect way to shuttle people from lunar orbit to the surface. Park a permanent mothership in orbit around the moon and land an unmanned habitat on the surface, then fly these things to and from the surface.

Awesome show. I got teared up when Rutan got emotional about the New Horizons mission wanting a piece of SS1 to send to Pluto, and when Mike Melvill got teared up talking about what Burt Rutan meant to him. Also, was very moved watching Melvill's wife watching him...man, how stressful to watch your husband fly a rocket to space. Jeez.

Here's some great video from in the cockpit and landing, I had not seen this before - touching moment with Binnie and his wife.

And this is from America Air...neat scene down there. Wish I could have been in Mojave. Wow.

Thanks...just think how stunted the Gov. Space agency will be when SpaceShipTwo takes flight. :)
