FCC COMMISSIONER STATEMENT ON SINCLAIR AIRING OF ANTI-KERRY SHOW
Tue Oct 12 2004 13:39:02 ET

FCC COMMISSIONER COPPS CRITICIZES SINCLAIR CORPORATE DECISION TO PREEMPT LOCAL STATIONS FOR POLITICAL BROADCAST

Commissioner Michael J. Copps reacted to reports that Sinclair Broadcast Group will preempt more than 60 local stations across the country to air an overtly political program in the days prior to the Presidential election.

Copps stated: "This is an abuse of the public trust.  And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative. Some will undoubtedly question if this is appropriate stewardship of the public airwaves. This is the same corporation that refused to air Nightline's reading of our war dead in Iraq. It is the same corporation that short-shrifts local communities and local jobs by distance-casting news and weather from hundreds of miles away.It is a sad fact that the explicit public interest protections we once had to ensure balance continue to be weakened by the Federal Communications Commission while it allows media conglomerates to get even bigger.  Sinclair, and the FCC, are taking us down a dangerous road."

Google reveals no press releases or any other news of an FCC statement about this.

I just heard the little weasel who looks like Michael J. Fox say that on Linda Vester's show. It sounded exactly like a threat.

LOL, I keep saying he looks like Michael J Fox, too.

The Sinclair announcement of the airing is clearly a publicity stunt

Nah, the democrats are stupid. Kerry and the DNC made Unfit for Command #1 with their screaming... they are doing the same again - they never learn. (good!)

From another interview on FNC.....

Linda Vester is currentlly interviewing Chad Clanton, described as a 'senior Kerry campaign advisor.'

Discussing the plans of the Sinclair broadcasting group to air "Stolen Honor," the documentary about Kerry's Vietnam war service, Clanton stated:

"They [Sinclair] better hope that we're not elected."

Vester immediately asked if that was intended as a threat to Sinclair that a Kerry administration would not renew their broadcast licenses. Clanton tried to back off, but the threat was unmistakable.

Gee, their response is located on page 1200 in the same book as kerry's "I have a plan"

Do you think this documentary will show Kerry urinating and burning the flag? That was the rumor on Hannity last week

You know, you'd think the agency responsible for communication would be a little more adept at using the Internet as a medium.

You're forgetting that these are people who could only get government jobs. See my tagline.

If Kerry's smart (and that's debatable), Clanton better be out the door pronto.

I'm sure that the standards the FCC applies to this network will be the same as they would apply if CBS proposed to tell the truth about George W. Bush.

Read about how the Kerry people said "They'd better hope we don't win."

That little boy response just put legs on the movie their going to show, Sinclair will have to make a statement to defend themselves and the MSM will have no choice but to cover it, thus making even more people aware of what Lurch is really like.

This thing is gonna grow, hope Bush uses it during the last debate.
