UN Oil-For-Food Question (VANITY)

Posted on 10/11/2004 6:44:27 PM PDT by American100

I've been reading up on this Oil-For-Food Scandal that seems to be coming to a head rather quickly and the question I have is that there is SO MUCH the President can use to rebut Kerry and essentially destroy Kerry's Foreign Policy arguments - why isn't he doing so?

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: oilforfood

Because, unlike Kerry, who dissed Karsai, Bush understands that he still has to work with these world leaders whether they are crooked or not. It's called statesmanship, I think.
Besides, with the reports coming out about this scandal Bush doesn't really need to say anything. Smart. Classy. Presidential.

I think this scandal has the potential to bring down so many people that Bush has two options. He could use it to destroy the UN, in the sense that it would cost it any of what little credibilty remains and would lead to most Americans demanding we resign.

OR

He now has all the UN bigwigs by the balls and when he says jump, they say "How high Sir?"

I suspect he would opt for the latter situation although I would rather the first.

Heard in conversation tonight - the wife of Alan Greenspan let it slip, on a TV program, that it will soon be revealed that high level Bush administration officials will be implicated as on the take in the "Oil for Food" program.

Has anyone heard anything about this? Sounds like an October suprise by the Kerry disinformation campaign.

PS - This was not a troll comment - I know the guy that said he saw this - couldn't remember the program but he is pretty apolitical so I'm not suprised. I post this only out of sincere interest if anyone has heard of this rumor....or worse?

It's just Andrea Mitchell having a wet dream. She's such an avowed Bush hater that she'd say anything to spin this off as a Bush Administration scandal.

I haven't heard the "high level" part, but I did hear something about this a few days ago.
Frankly, I wouldn't doubt it was true. We have our share of criminals in public office. Republicans and Democrats.
Having said that, why bribe our officials? There's no way they could bribe anyone in this administration that would change our policy. If you're going to bribe someone you should use your money wisely, at least.

If there was even a hint of a Bush administration connection it would be all over the NY Times by now. The MSM is basically ignoring the whole scandal which leaves me to believe that there isn't any Bush connection.

BSR, is this a guess, albeit a well informed guess, or did you actually see it happen?

If it was Andrea Mictchell, (I think I forgot Andrea was Greenspans wife....is that right?), I'd discount it. If it wasn't personally her....it could spell trouble.

Hopefully you can straighten me out.

Alas, you have caught me.

I have no firsthand knowledge of such an event actually taking place. I believe as you do, that she is improperly equipped to be up to the task.

I was only using her words to extrapolate what I perceived to have been the likely cause of her exuberence at reporting an unfounded rumor about The President.
