Just looks like a big fumarole....could have been doing that all of the last two days but it was cloudy and you couldn't see, of course.
To: PureSolace
All's quiet in Seattle except for the sound of the leftists putting Kerry/Edwards stickers on their cars.
To: Mike Darancette
Well, if it starts throwing out gas too, feed it some Beano.
To: Tall_Texan
Good thing it is not throwing peanuts.

Ever since I started my high fiber Atkins diet I have reacted quite a bit like Mt. St. Helens. People have been keeping a safe distance from me too.

Looks like the fumarole may be relieving some of the pressure that was building.
Quake intensities dropped off sometime in the middle of the night, after steadily building throughout yesterday. Quakes were coming in the 2-2.5 range pretty steadily yesterday, now they seem to be dropped back into the 1-1.5 range. Quake frequency doesn't look to be dropping off though, just the intensity level.

Hmm, actually it appears it really did start abruptly at 7:00AM Pacific.
I had just looked at the cam for the first time today myself when it had just started.
Still just looks like steam.

Is this the fault of Bush?
