SNL skewers Edwards in VP debate

Posted on 10/09/2004 9:13:50 PM PDT by elephantman96

Did anyone just see Saturday Night Live skewer Edwards in a parody of the VP debate? They actually let Cheney look pretty good, but made Edwards out to be a young baffoon. At the end Cheney says, "But when those terrorists with their antrax come riding over the hill on saber toothed tigers with Kerry Edwards bumper stickers on their rumps, who do you want standing there, a lean mean killing machine , thats me, or your local news anchor?" To which they cut to Edwards giving his thumbs up sign with a sh*t eating grin on his face... They even got in digs on Edwards with Cheney saying he missed 70 percent of the votes in the Senate and that "Strom Thurmond had a better attendance record in the senate his final term, and he was dead!" To which they showed in a split screen Edwards smiling and nodding his head in agreement. Daryl Hammond did his typically great impression of Cheney. Just wondering if anyone else saw it and what they're thoughts were....

After the VP debate, my mild mannered mother, who never says a bad thing about anyone, called me and asked if I saw "Tinkerbell" debate Cheney...

Paraphrased:

Cheney: When there are terrorists waving sabres riding over the border on sabertooth tigers with Kerry/Edwards stickers on their rears.
Who do you want in their way, A lean mean killing machine like myself or your local newscaster?

Queen Latifah was good as Gwen Ifill (sp?): "I'll be conducting the debate similar to my colleague Jim Lehrer in the first debate, except that I won't take any b.s...."

I didn't see it. I turned off SNL during their "Bush/Kerry debate", because I thought they were way too rough on Bush and much too easy on Kerry. Last week they spent about 5 times as much time bashing Bush as Kerry, and it seemed like it was going that way this week as well.

I guess I should have checked back; going after Edwards would have been great to see.

Daryl Hammond's Cheney grin is priceless! LOL - great skit.

Leno had fun with their debate earlier in the week, and gave Edwards a hard time. Come to think of it, so did the latest JibJab cartoon!

I saw some of it, I guess this was balance for the way they showed Bush earlier. They let the guy doing Kerry just announce kerry talking points and throw in plan ever time,

I laughed my head off at the new JobJab cartoon.

Clinton: What'd I DO?!

Kerry/Edwards got slammed a little more.

Hope they captured Edwards' eye-blinking like a teen-age girl with a new set of contacts, as well as frantic sign-language of his hands. Honestly, between the goofy smiling, blinking, and traffic-directing, I couldn't stand watching it and had to turn on the radio instead.

Edwards' ADD behavior makes me wonder if the guy needs a dose of Ritalin!

I would definitely agree with that, and never meant to intone that they favored Bush at all, its just at least they attempt from time to time to be slightly less un-balanced, which is an improvement over the past. Still very liberal, but a little better. I did find in X-Presidents that they have picked up on Ron Reagan and the pink ballarina outfit, and Kerry repeating vietnam over and over again. Yes it was very unflattering for Bush, but again, at least they are throwing in a little fun of the left which was even more rare before. I also agree that in general, this season does pretty much suck...
