You're echoing the media spin. This wasn't just ideology on display. The media would have us believe that Bush appealed solely to the base last night---he was talking to everybody.

One thing you have to remember is that John Kerry has two bases. He is trying to run both to the right and to the left of Bush. If ideology becomes a factor in this campaign, Kerry loses because he cannot satisfy both of his bases.
