I was curious about the jobs situation in Australia, since the stories I read seemed to indicate people there were pretty happy with the economy. The September unemployment rate in Australia was 5.6% having been 5.9 % in September of 2003. In the U.S. the rate is now 5.4% and was 6.1% in September 2003. Funny how those numbers are considered excellent by Australians but lackluster by economists here (or a near disastrous, depression-like jobless recovery if you are part of the mainstream U.S. press).

Another odd observation. The number of unemployed persons in Australia decreased by 3.4% since last September and Australians are thrilled. The number of unemployed in the U.S. decreased by a whopping 11% and we are in a near disastrous, depression-like jobless recovery, according to the left.
