Australian Election
vanity | 9th October 2004 | naturalman1975

Posted on 10/09/2004 12:47:55 AM PDT by naturalman1975

I hesitate to suggest this, as I am fairly new around here, but I have noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the Australian eleciton, so I thought I would make an offer here. I will be watching the election coverage and if people are interested, as the coverage proceeds, I can post updates in this thread, so people can follow what is happening in Australia.

Just an offer. Coverage starts in 15 minutes.

Oh and if any other Aussies want to post updates as well, of course, I wouldn't object. It's just I can see interest.

Who cares, the MSM is making itself obsolete. If they don't report something, people just come to the web. The more they fail to report, the weaker they get and the stronger the "alternative sources" become.

"The biggest news is that with Family First preferences, the Coalition has gained power in the Upper House."

Oh, happy day! This is the first place I turned when I woke up 10 minutes ago...what a nice way to start the weekend.

Congratulations down under!

(I wonder if GWB had a good preview of the early polls last night to boost his confidence for the debate. I wouldn't be surprised.)

..nervous??..I woke up at 4:30am with a nightmare..Kerry was in my home giving his talking points!...

In your home??? That's horrific! Now, you gotta stay frosty, Meg. If I can get through the last two weeks, you can make it to November the 3rd. I'll be here then, celebrating the Dems' downfall, with all my Seppo Freeper friends, especially yourself!

Not only has Howard won, he's beaten Latham like a red-headed step-child. I bet all those fools who put money on Latham to win have got faces longer than John Kerry's.

Betcha we won't hear beans about Howard's victoria in Australia from the MSM.

Oh... I imagine President Bush and Vice President Cheney may mention it a time or two on the campaign trail. ;-)

Great! That's the Senate, correct? And Family First supports the Liberals and the Coalition? I think that I read that Family First gained votes, from what, the projected vote,or from last time?

Oh, I care. Precisely because it's (insert expletive here) like that that is helping the MSM to circle the bowl. I figure the more we notice, the faster they'll swirl :)

Yes, that's the Senate - and Family First does seem to have done better than expected - they've never been in the Senate before, they may have made it. They are certainly going to be close.

Yes, if things pan out as these results are showing, the coalition will have unimpeded progress of its legislation through the Senate. The Family First party was unashamedly pro-religion. What is interesting is that just before the election all of the leaders of the major parties were interviewed on their spiritual beliefs. Only one of them, Andrew "Have a Few Too Many Beers" Bartlett, of the Democrats said that he didn't believe in god. The Democrats vote was down 80% ! (Divine judgement...)

Aus's ABC radio just had another spot on our debate saying Republicans were heartened by Bush's performance. They played a couple clips. One of Kerry slamming Bush on inability to bring in allies, then with Bush's reply that Kerry would hold a summit and "ask them to join him in the wrong war, the wrong time, the wrong place." They mentioned the debate is widely seen as a draw a couple times and remarked it was a "town hall style debate" with candidates taking audience questions. Lastly, they ended with the first question about Kerry being "wishy-washy" and his claim that while Bush found no WMDs in Iraq, Bush's campaign is a "Weapon of Mass Deception."

Has Howard given his victory speach yet? (I'd dearly love for him to include the words "UP YOURS MARK!")

Is this correct-the Liberal Party won enough votes to form government without any coalition?
