It's to make up for the (infrequent) times I snap and yell "Could y'all PLEASE move to the center of the car!"
I don't understand why so many people have a problem with something that seems so simple - If you're not getting on the train, don't stand on the platform blocking the door. If you are getting on the train, don't stop just inside the door and block it.
I've forgotten who posted about how quiet it is, but that poster didn't ride the 4:40 out of Farragut West - the driver of that train gets on the intercom and jokes with everyone. A couple of weeks ago he was telling us about the delays in the system, then added: But I do have good news - I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance. He turned a crowded trainload of grumpy people into laughing comrades-in-misfortune immediately.
I've heard that driver! He's wonderful, isn't he??
I'm too busy telling the tourists, "No, that's not the White House out the window, it's the Capitol" to tell them not to eat. I'll remember that next time! :-D
