If I may ask, where in Western Oregon are you? Portland/Salem/Eugene may be too liberal, but what about the coast south of the Dunes? That area seems pretty appealing to me (Coos Bay, Bandon, etc.).
About 5 years ago, I visited Newport/Lincoln City with long-term thoughts in mind, but the Central Coast seemed rather crowded and "artsy." I liked the weather, at least in concept: no snow, but never hot either (almost never over 70).
I'm a native Oregonian and have spent the last decade living in Portland ... but now live in Salem.
I don't want to spend the rest of my life in Oregon since there is nothing I really want to see here.
