Turkey seems to have moderated. That being said, this is not a good idea. I can only see a disasterous aftermath to this.

Jan Sobieski III turned the Turks back at the gates of Vienna in 1682. Now they are being handed the keys.
Europe will be Muslim land - Eurabia. Christian and non-Muslim Europeans will be relegated to Dhimmitude, or worse.

Just great, give third-world Muslims even freer access to Europe. Say by-by, Europe.

What's your problem? It means that the superstate goes permanently off the agenda.

Turkey is an islamist country, and doesn't belong to Europe, Turkey has 80 million people, women don't have the same rights than in the others european countries. Do you know the last law they wanted to do in this country about the adulterous. Europe is Christian, Aznar wanted this term in European constitution, but unfortunately he is no more here to opposite, Chirac wants Turkey in Europe and others countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, he wants to do Eurabia, I hope it will be somebody to stop him, perhaps Bush will stop him.
