I must say I was never a big Rodney Dangerfield fan. Just hadn't seen much of his stuff or paid attention. But here is my Rodney Dangerfield story.
Several years ago when Rodney decided to premier his latest movie, which may have been his last and I can't even remember the name, he decided to have to premiers. One was in California I think but before that he decided to have one in another town. He chose Daingerfield, TX, which has about 3,000 people and is where I am from. He chose it because of the name even though the spelling is different. Well, not much happens in Daingerfield and this was big, really big! He sent his people out to check on things and see if it was feasible. Any one from a small town like that knows if something like this happens the whole town is involved. The town officially changed the spelling of the town to his spelling for the day, declared it Rodney Dangerfield day, gave him a key to the city and had a parade. The schools let out and the bands marched. There were old time cars and clowns- the works. He had his wife were the grand marshals. At the end of the parade he made little talk in the town square and was so gracious. He seemed truly surprised that a town would go to that much trouble and that practically every town member was there. He even got a little emotional talking about it. The movie was shown in the little theater there on the square with just a few invited guests in attendance but it was and still is one of the biggest things to happen there. I think the movie was the one where he and a son go to college at the same time.
