AT FIRST GLANCE, the women and their children at the community center in Morris Plains seemed to be a play group or mothers' club. But in between nursing babies and soothing toddlers, the conversation was about paid parental leave, affordable child care, and Social Security credits for at-home moms.
A meeting of Morris County Mothering NOW was under way. Yes, that's right, NOW, as in the National Organization for Women, the nation's leading feminist group.
"We want to bring mothers' issues to the front burner. We're going to have discussions that might not seem appropriate at a play group," said Laurie Pettine, 36, an at-home mother of two from Mendham and a founder of the task force. The task force, affiliated with the Morris County NOW chapter, and another affiliated with the South Jersey-Alice Paul chapter in Moorestown are believed to be the only such groups in the country.

Guess the lesbos have figured out that they'd better do a little recruiting since they'll be out of business in 20 years. Maybe ignorant welfare mothers can pump up their sagging numbers, and it also give them access to their kids, unfortunately.
The only one that took care of me all the years that I raised my kids was my husband.
These young women want it all!
Like how cool it is to kill your babies, for example.
THIS STAY AT HOME MOM NEEDS NO HELP FROM N.O.W.!!! Haven't they done enough to ruin the central core of family values? I wish they'd just wither up like the old bittys they are and disappear.
Me either! I am one stay at home mom that NOW won't be getting on their side! YUCK!
Halls, this is one aspect of women's lives they have so fervently opposed throughout their existence. Were we not considered naive, uneducated, and cowtowing to our husbands just a little under 20 years ago by this very group?
I think what has urged this movement to reach stay at home Mothers is that the Moms of today actually make a conservative choice to stay at home and raise our children with a morally correct upbringing. They realize they are out of the loop and we are "untouchable", we are falling through their grasp of their agenda. Not only do they lose our support, but the generation we are raising will not have a great opinion of them either.
NOW is like so 80s
How relative is NOW? They have half the population of America as potential members, yet their ranks barely break the half million mark.
The NRA, widely derided by the left, has the RKBA, hunting and sport shooting population to draw upon and has more than 5 million members.
Who's more relevant?
Not to mention the fact that they CHOSE to make themselves obsolete within 2 generations. There are about 40 million reasons they find themselves with no base to teach or reach. Of course, they didn't see that coming at the time.
my take as well
The Concerned Women of America have TONS more members, yet are regularly ignored by the media for opinions on "women's issues," - NOW - go away. We got your number. You're peddling unhappiness and failure and we ain't buying it.
These people need to be IGNORED. They've screwed things up enough as it is.
I didn't know NOW consisted of any mothers.
NOW is later.
You have hit the nail on the head. I just so happen to be one Mother that did take my children's education into my own hands. I ernestly work for school tax dollars to be returned to the rightful owner, the educator, which in this case is me.
Anyone who opposes the actions/intent of NOW, be prepared to organize to fight them tooth and nail. Because the media, of course, will give them all the time they want to spew their good deeds.
We're raising a crop of spoiled adults.
But I think it's more basic. With women it's always been about coverture. In the old days, a lady was covered by her father, or her brother(s), because a male was deemed the only one competent to protect against other males. After her family, she was covered by her husband.
Coverture is an ancient common law concept and practice and is just as valid today as it was, like the master/servant relationship at law which is now called the employer/employee relationship.
The coverture has largely been passed, and feminists groups are trying to get it fully passed, from the men in her life to the national government.
Personally, if I were a woman, I would rather be covered by a serial rapist than the Congress of the United States.
(Sorry for the lengthly explanation, but too many folks have never heard of coverture even tho they act under it every day)
Isn't N.O.W. the one who put together that rally with Jane Fonda called Vagina Vote? I read something about it on Free republic the other day. Well, I'm a 34 year old, stay at home, homeschooling mother of three. I can't even begin to imagine how N.O.W. would try to court me for the vote? Certainly not with their rallies!!!! Disgusting!?!
