You know something? I will be voting for the first time this year. I just turned 18. I think that as a new voter and a person who will be contributing to this country that I can now speak my opinion.

I am not the smartest person when it comes to politics. I know enough to say that President Bush did not blow it. My mom encouraged me to watch the debate tonight so that I could make up my own mind. To be honest I have heard so much about all of the supposed failures that Bush has made in his term. I have heard a lot about the hope that Kerry would bring. I hope you understand there are many young people who will rely on what they hear rather than what they see and they will vote based on that.

I listened to Kerry tonight and I saw a man who would threaten the way of life that I know and hold dear. He is a man who has no principle. Listening to him I could see a furture that held America hostage to the whims and wishes of others who don't like us to begin with. All he seemed to care about was world opinion. World opinion isn't going to keep us from being attacked. It isn't going to keep our economy strong. You don't change opinions of others by giving into them. In doing that you only give others control over you. America cannot be controlled by any one else other than we the people. If we ever give in then we are doomed and even I know that.

So even though Kerry may have spoken more eloquently, remember this. It is easy to masquerade your lies under the disguise of eloquent speech.

President Bush may not have used fancy words or style but he was honest. I don't want a man who holds my country's future in his hands to lie to me. This country's future is my future. It is my little brothers' and sister's future. It is my children's future when I have them. President Bush will protect this country and that means protecting me and everyone I love.

So please, don't say Bush blew it and add to the negativity that us young kids have to wade through. I have learned a lot from the debate. I learned that a man can stand up in a suit and look good but be empty inside. That is how John Kerry came across to me. I feel real fear in knowing that this man could be elected president of the United States and will tell all of my friends that even though he talks a pretty talk his plans for America are just plain ugly.

My name is Miles and I am Please No Mores son and proud of it. I may not have said everything I wanted to just right but I am a good and decent person. So is our President.

First, thank you for your reply. Have your dad sign you up for your own account and keep posting.

Unfortunately, I think Bush did blow the debate, but I don't think that should be taken as a personal attack against him. He is a much better candidate for President than Kerry, obviously, but he has a lot of trouble in a public speaking environment. I don't have a problem with pointing out Bush's failures because I do support him. I just wish he could be better at getting his point across.

Did you see the O'Reilly interview on Fox this week? He did an incredible job. It was one of the best interviews I have seen with him. I wish he would have had that same confidence in the debate.

Beautifully said. This is the main jist I got out of Kerry tonight as well. I knew he felt this way, but he actually surprised me at how forthrightly he ADMITS that one of his main goals is to get "respect" from other countries. And that he would openly admit that he would shut down our nuclear program... Think of the weakness that would open within our country. Talk about threatening our way of life!

Stay the way you are; you are wiser than most of the FReepers twice and three times your age.

Hey! We're all (mostly) on the same side here. It's not really "negativity" as much as our disappointment that W does not reach out and say just the right thing to put that oompa loompa in his place.

Perhaps he didn't "blow" it; it's just that we wish he could have destroyed Forbes the way we know he deserves to be destroyed. That's all.

You're doing great! An excellent post, and very well written. Mark your calendar for election day... and keep posting!

Young man, you're wise beyond your years. Please talk to all your friends, then volunteer to man the phone banks on behalf of the President in the final days of the election. We need young people like you communicating the message of truth; of substance over style.
