While I don't think anyone won tonight, I hate to say that Kerry came out on top. It appeared to me that Bush let Kerry get to him. Bush's best game is not a one-on-one debate. Kerry has 20 years experience on the Senate floor (perhaps one of the best debate training fields available). Bush only entered politics (as a candidate) within the last decade.
Perhaps I'm being too critical of Bush's performance. As a Bush supporter, I hope that is the case. And I agree with others here that a town hall setting will be much more favorable to the President (depending on how many DNC operatives are allowed to infiltrate the audience).
And by the way, NBC just had 6 so-called "undecided voters" on. They all said they thought Kerry won tonight, and all implied they will be voting for him. I don't for one second believe they were truly "undecided" before tonight. I think Terry McAuliffe just hit a homerun by getting them in that panel. And that's the kind of stuff I'm worried about.
