Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
"I agree...there were missed opportunities--one big one that comes to mind--Kerry said he was opposed to developing "bunker-busting" nukes--he said he was OPPOSED!!! Dubya should've nailed him to the wall for that!"
Yup, he should have nailed Kerry to the wall on that onme. The reason you need nuclear bunker bustyers is BECAUSE of buried nukes and wmd's that can't be attacked otherwise.
I think I definitely missed something! I mean, Bush could have done better, but he wasn't THAT bad...I'm listening to WABC NY Newsradio, and some man (a European, no less) is saying that Kerry won 'hands down' and that he had Bush 'frustrated, angered, agitated and on the defensive the whole time.' I didn't hear that (maybe it's because I wasn't watching, only listening?)
I agree with you that Bush was on the losing end tonight. What makes it depressing is that it should have been so easy to make this guy look like a fool. As it was, Bush was constantly on the defensive. Kerry did not forget to throw up any and all of his lies and Bush was unable to refute them all
The polls will close up after tonight.
Solution: Prayers for Pres. Bush and Gods Will.
Pathetic....loser. God help us if the Dems cheat their way into him becoming POTUS.
FRegards,
I think the second one will go a lot better. BUsh knows he needs more facts at his command, plus he does very well just talking to people.
All Kerry could do is talk about is how he had a better "plan" for Iraq and how Bush is "doing it all wrong" but he never defines exactly what his plan is.
Kerry kept talking about international coalitions and how he would do better at getting more allies to help us with Iraq. As if the few hundred troops he could possibly extract from France or Germany would really make much of an impact.
Bush appeared nervous and hesitant at times but didn't make any serious gaffes.
Net result is that this will have negligible result in the polls. IF anything, undecided voters were turned off by Kerry's lecturing, overbearing style.
Folks ... hindsight is 20-20. Kerry, with no criticism at the time of the war is now saying "We should have done this, and we should have done that..." Some of the folks here at Fr are now doing the same to President Bush. Listening to the libs, we now know there was no big win for Kerry.... maybe an edge according to them. We have two debates to go. I don't think Kerry has eaten into the lead at all.
Excellent point.
Excellent post.
Report from husband and daughter: Bush won. Both thought Kerry did well, but daughter said he started to go a little crazy toward the end. She explained she meant he was getting nastier.
Brokaw getting testy with Giuliani on NBC as he, Brokaw, tries to tell him that Musharaf said something or other.
Giuliani answered and goes on to point out Kerry's changing positions. He says President Bush talked to the American people, Kerry lectured them.
Brokaw ends with "We invited VP Cheney and he declined". Oh, really, Tom?
Agreed. The town hall format will be to Bush's advantage.
Kerry you ignorant ass! Sorry, had a flashback to the early SNL news. You know Bushie wanted to blast him!!LOLOL. He is such a nimrod and clearly just doesn't GET IT!!!
I can summarize what I saw very simply:
This was a debate between a man who has very strong core convictions and one who has none at all.
Good lord! Do you live your life focused on such triviality as who would make a better barker for a car dealership sale commercial? John Kerry is by far a better speaker. Does that have anything to do with policy? Bush missed his stride tonight and seemed disinterested in hitting this jerk in the mouth but that may have been by design. He didn't want to seem small. To hell with style over substance.
Reminded me of the Al Gore debates, too.
Kerry sounded like a used car salesman telling us how he's going to double the Special Forces. Yea, like those guys grow on trees.
I think Kerry came across as presidential for the first time tonight. He was dignified and had real presence, and was not sneering or snide except for his chuckle about Bush's misjudgments at the outset. But he didn't score anything remotely resembling a finishing move. He just spoke better.
Democratic Undergroud is laughing at all the doom and gloom over here. They are posting some of our posts.
That's ok. That bunch is nuts anyway. They won't be laughing on 11/2. LOL!!
There is only one more debate for the President. The VP debate is the third debate. So Bush has one more round.
That's what I posted earlier today.
Kerry may have won on style and for a certain chunk of undecided voters out there, that may be all the reason they're looking for to vote for Kerry.
We all know Kerry is full of BS but Kerry wasn't aiming his comments at us tonight.
Damn...I don't get it. I love this site. I care deeply for many of the good friends I have made here.
I don't like having my admiration and devotion to our President attacked because I thought he was not doing as well in a debate.
If there is anything we must all be...it is truthful.
John Kerry is a lying dog whose throat I wouldn't piss in if his tonsils were on fire. But he was a good debater.
Knock out punch? No way.
On the offensive? Yes
Right? No.
Better prepped? It appeared to me he had the questions beforehand.
Am I pacing the floor...running my hands through my hair and gnashing my teeth? No.
I'm I a DU plant? Bite me for any such suggestion.
