Maybe if you go ape$hit during interaction with them will get you killed quicker and the less they will use you for propaganda?

I think you just demonstrated why the terrorists are releasing people now. If someone who had just been kidnapped knew that in all likelihood that were dead meat regardless they probably would start going ape-sh@t. And you can't get much propoganda out of a corpse. So the terrorists start releasing a select few in order to give those kidnapped later a pause for thought - if I behave they just might release me too!
