I don't think anyone is doubting your knowledge. I'm not. I do know that something really bad happened to Daly's eyes that he is still having effects from. Maybe it is something altogether new.

All recorded instances that I know of were under very specific conditions, such as the pilot looking directly at the laser beam of a laser designed to be a weapon, or the injuries were sustained when the beam was observed with magnifying optics. Something that is highly unlikely to occur with a commercial pilot

Are laser injuries impossible? No. Are they extremely unlikely? Yes. Very unlikely. I don't doubt that the cockpit was illuminated, but I don't believe the pilot will show any permanent injury by the flash.
