SEATTLE Seismologists in Washington State are on alert as earthquakes rock Mount St. Helens. Plus, the rumbling of the world's largest volcano, Mauna Loa in Hawaii, shows no signs of stopping. Are these two volcanoes ready to erupt? Mount St. Helens is just one volcanic hot spot and scientist are working hard to predict when or if there will be an eruption soon.
The Washington State volcano erupted in 1980. A good portion of the mountain was literally blown to pieces creating devastation in its path.
On Monday small earthquakes rattled Mount St. Helens at the rate of one or two a minute. Reportedly, this is the most seismic activity in nearly 20 years.
According to Jeff Wynn, chief scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Vancouver, Washington, early test of gas samples collected above the volcano did not show usually high level of carbon dioxide or sulfur. He said that this probably means that magma is not yet moving up in the system.
Wynn says that additional tests are necessary to better define whether there's magma moving under the mountain's crater.
Meanwhile, in Hawaii, in the area of the Mauna Loa volcano, dozens of earthquakes have been felt over the past few days. The last time the Mauna Loa volcano erupted was 20 years ago.
These recent activity has led volcano scientists to say that this leads to one conclusion. That conclusion is this will l

Yep, it seems that way. But we forget that we live in a 100 year time frame when the universe is much older than that.
The first line of Genesis in Hebrew says the world, in the begining was 'tohu va-vohu' - waste and chaos. Waste means something was there from the start. Not 'nothing' as is commonly assumed.
The weather and 'signs' are cyclical, in my opinion. I am not Dennis Miller, but I still may be wrong.

I agree. The Earth was organized by the Lord rather than created. Matter is neither created nor destroyed, but can be arranged and organized in a creative and useful purpose.

Pinging Delmont to this thread...he's hosed no matter what happens - he lives in the shadow of Mt. St. Helens and gets to go house sit for his boss in Hawaii next week.
Nice knowing you, Delmont.

Tks! I happened to be watching GMA this a.m. when the Mauna Loa story came across. I'm a nut for volcanoes anyway. Think I'll get banned for watching MSM?

Two Volcanoes Ready to Erupt: Mt. St. Helens and Mauna Loa To the Tinfoil, DU'ers! Here, I will help:
Just 5 weeks before the presidential election, more big news that will take away Kerry's last weeks of news time. How convenient. Two words: Karl Rove.

Does anyone know if the airports in Seattle or Portland were closed on May 18, 1980? I assume they were. I just checked Sea-Tac website, but nothing about possible ash etc. interfering with operations.

Mount St. Helens can't erupt until they find some old codger, with the same name as a dead President, who's determined not to get out of harm's way.
Maybe Toutatis will land on Mount St. Helens and stifle the eruption.
To: KiloLima
I wonder if they are closely watching Yellow Stone also? That would be truly devastating.
