Not an oldie, but the recent Buckhead/pajamahadeen fluury of signups made me nostalgic for the election 2000 fiasco signup flurry (under a different name) of which I was a part.
I should probably start another thread, but I am interested in hearing from others what event if anything led them to sign up?

A statistical sample shows a retention rate of about 4-6%.
Anyone can do this. Go to URL http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/user-posts?id=xxx where xxx = the old ID of the Freeper to see who's left. Take a range of ID numbers, say 10,000 - 19,999 and sample 100 numbers (a 1% sample).
It would be great if there were volunteers who could do this and plot the results over time.
