I was having an argument with another FReeper about how many of the old timers were still around. I tell people there is a FReeper vsyndrome and that most of them are still around, they just don't post much anymore.

I'm (snork!) still awake...still beer in the bottle, still time to FReep. Every time I think the place is getting boring something incredible happens, and I thank heaven I was onboard when the CBS thing broke. We turned a page there, IMHO, but we're still only halfway through the book.

Lots more trolls these days, which is one sign of it. They aren't too bright, though. I miss the Ash days. Lots of us (well, Deb) have mellowed a lot since the wild and woolly early times, and it comes as a shock to some of the newbies that FR was once much, much rougher.

Like many, I lurked during the heady days of '98. At the office, I read the threads during lunch and breaks. Finally, in a chat room in the evening with Yellow Rose of Texas, amom, RAH, Towanda, LisaFab and others, Rose encouraged me to open a niche in the firewall and register, so that I could participate. That was May of '99 but I had been following the drama since about March of '98. I was here for DTHF, the night of the long knives cadre revolt, AshAlerts and all that silly stuff.

What a great thing it was to watch the lead-up to the impeachment and the drama of its unfolding.
