How do we combat it though? That's the mystery for many decades it seems.

It is not a mystery, we combat it by making sure the President wins by an unquestionable margin. That is done by spending all the time we can spare at our local Republican Headquarters, making phone calls, knocking on doors, or whatever else needs to be done.

Especially people in NY, PA and other states where the race is "close" or in a "dead heat", everyone get out and vote and be sure to spread the word to all friends and family to make sure that they are registered and get out to vote for GW BUSH IN 2004, their votes can make the difference, and this is a must win election year for Bush. Well I don't know how much good we can do here in Arizona, where Pres. Bush now has a comfortable lead. In the state we just returned from after 4 months, Washington, we could have helped more. It's hard to do long-distance though.

Is there any way we can help with the national election from a supposedly "safe red state"?

I am getting optimistic about Maine. When I went to pick up tickets for the Bush Rally, there were many young people picking up call sheets and the place was a buzz of activity. Also since the rally, there are more Bush signs and stickers than I have ever seen for a Republican candidate in my 70+ years. This is in southern Maine. I was called recently and asked if I wanted an absentee ballot. This will be much more convenient for my hubby and I because of our age so I was pleased to get the call. Still registered as a Dem as I love to hassle the Dems when they call. Haven't voted Dem in many, many years much to the chagrin of all my relatives.
