Yes, Windows Messenger is disabled. These are definately IE pop-ups because they are in an IE window, even when IE is not running.

Are you using Spybot or any other type of spyware detection utility? Sounds like some kind of malware might have hijacked your browser.

I experienced spurious IE windows opening when clicking on a hyper-link in my E-mail program, Eudora. Upgrading from Firefox 0.9 to 1.0 fixed the problem.
